The Reasons You Shouldn't Smoke?
  • We live in a crazy world where criminals are glorified and individuals are occasionally jailed for petty crimes. Yet virtually there is nothing done about the sale of tobacco which is far more deadly than any criminal around the face of your earth.

Tobacco can be a killer and it kills without mercy. In america smoking cigarettes is liable for over 400,000 deaths annually. Tobacco related diseases kill over 276,000 men and 142,000 women yearly. Those who smoke regularly shorten their lives by about 2,250 days.

"A 25-year-old, two pack-a-day smoker of cigarettes provides a lifespan 8.three years shorter than his non-smoking counterpart. For sets of men smoking less than 10 cigarettes on a daily basis, the loss of several years of lifespan is 4.6 years; smoking 10 to 19 cigarettes daily shortens the lifespan, expectancy by 5.five-years; and smoking 20 to 39 cigarettes every day, by 6.2 years," said E.G. Hammond in "Lifespan of American Men with regards to their Smoking Habits."

Smoking causes other conditions likewise. Property damage on account of fires caused by cigarettes costs the American public $400 million year after year. But this amount is small in comparison to the man-hours lost from smoking.

"The health-care costs of tobacco use in this country are staggering. Annually, we spend $23 billion in medical costs and we also lose $30 billion on account of reduction in working efforts and decreased productivity from the results of smoking. Annually smoking kills more Americans than died in battle in World War II and Vietnam combined," in accordance with Dr. David E. Larson, editor-in-chief of the "Mayo Clinic Family Health Book."

"Smoking will be the single largest, preventable root cause of premature death and disability in this country. One out of six deaths in the us each and every year is associated with cigarette smoking. The American Lung Association states that smoking kills more Americans annually than cocaine/heroin, alcohol abuse, accidents, homicide and suicide combined," Larson added.

Why do people smoke regardless of these grim statistics? Some say smoking helps them relax and ease tension. Others seen tobacco being an escape from the everyday problems or as an approach of addressing the requirements of the profession. And others say that smoking perks up a full day and prepares them for what lies ahead.
